SPRING LIVING OVERVIEW

Spring Living (springliving.ca) owns and operates retirement communities in Ontario and has a strategy to create a billion-dollar portfolio of mid-market retirement residences in Canada over the next 3-5 years. Spring Living’s mission is to create warm, welcoming and secure environments for residents, foster caring connections, and provide personalized services by team members who are committed to making a significant impact every day.

Spring Living is the Retirement Community platform of Marlin Spring, a Real Estate company that strategically acquires, develops, constructs and repositions assets throughout North America.

ROLE PROFILE

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Controller will provide corporate and operational leadership for the effective oversight and stewardship of the assets and resources of Spring Living. As a key member of the Finance Team, the successful candidate will focus on developing a high-performing team to promote the culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The candidate must have gained experience from roles in financial controllership, accounting, planning and forecasting and business finance systems management.

ROLE RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Direct, coordinate and review monthly and quarterly financial reporting, forecasting and variance reporting for operational, capital and corporate reporting to the various stakeholders (operations, executives, board and investors)
  • Maintain effective internal control environments across critical processes both corporately and across all retirement residences

ROLES AND RESONSIBILITIES CONT’D

  • Develop and implement accounting and financial management and procurement policies and procedures guiding day-to-day practices; oversee adherence and best practices
  • Implement processes and systems to control, manage and report on the group’s capital expenditures program across all retirement residences
  • Lead the annual operating, capital planning and budgeting processes
  • Lead all aspects of Yardi optimization for the business and ensure operational administration is managed
  • Lead the integration of the financial management of all acquisitions – AP/AR, budgets, financials, etc.
  • Implement and manage appropriate risk management, insurance and business continuity programs, systems and processes required to mitigate financial risk
  • Implement systems and reporting to comply with all relevant statutory and regulatory obligations
  • Implement financial controls, approval limits and an internal audit program, overseeing corrective action as required and reporting
  • Complete all financial regulatory filings and audits for tax, regulatory and government agencies
  • Directly manage and mentor the spring living corporate finance team

Leadership:

  • Present accurate, timely, and relevant reporting to the VP Finance
  • Provide guidance, education and expertise to the Leadership Team in the residences regarding budgets, financials, variance, Yardi utilization, procurement
  • Develop strong working relationships throughout all levels of the organization
  • Bring your energy and curiosity to all levels to inspire those around you

OTHER KEY SKILLS

  • A proven leader, and finance transformation change agent
  • Comfortable working in a dual GAAP reporting environment (IFRS/ASPE)
  • Strong verbal and executive leadership presentation skills
  • A self-motivated and team-oriented individual with fresh ideas and innovative solutions will thrive in our dynamic culture
  • Proven team management skills with a focus on mentorship

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • CPA designation and university degree in business management, finance or accounting
  • 5+ years’ experience in a financial leadership role
  • Experience in a private equity environment with a focus on real estate and asset
  • Proven success with system implementations, process optimization is considered as must-haves.
