JOB OVERVIEW

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer & VP of Finance

The Financial Controller oversees the accounting and financial reporting department for one of Canada’s largest and fastest growing seniors housing companies. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, controls and regulatory compliance. Oversee a team of finance managers, property accountants and A/P coordinators.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Controller will be responsible for several key areas of our business, including:

  • Financial Reporting and Accounting – Broad oversight of Spring Living’s financial reporting function, including the monthly month end close process. Internal lead for the preparation of both audited and accountant-reviewed financial statements (both IFRS and ASPE), internal management accounts, bookkeeping function, intercompany transactions, tax filings, and liaising with our external accountants and tax advisors
  • Cash Management – Managing the broader Spring Living business’ receivables and payables, payroll, banking facilities and liaising with external lenders and bankers
  • Risk Management – Manage all compliance-related reporting and management for Spring Living’s business functions, ensure adequate policies and documentation are in place. Monitor risks and mitigate.
  • Internal Controls – make sure the company’s internal controls are in place and effective, perform periodic audits and create new processes as required
  • Budgeting and Forecasting – support the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts for the properties and business
  • Finance Operations – oversight of select finance/operational functions, including insurance, IT, payroll and benefits and liaison with third party service providers
  • Investor and Board Reporting – managing the preparation of reports and presentations to Spring Living’s managed investments on a monthly/quarterly/ad hoc basis, including quarterly/annual financial results
  • Strategic Projects – support senior management with various strategic initiatives on an ad-hoc basis, including identifying areas for systems or process optimization in our business

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, economics or other relevant technical discipline with at least seven (7) years of progressive experience
  • CA, CPA qualification is required
  • Experience with Yardi ERP system is essential
  • Experience in a seniors housing or equivalent industry is preferred
  • Experience in corporate / fund accounting/reporting and compliance is valuable
  • Strong foundation in financial reporting and controls, ability to manage a tight and efficient month-end process
  • Attention to detail, team oriented, ability to problem solve, strong initiative, interpersonal skills

Pay: From CA$90,000.00 per year
