The company has an ambitious growth plan to expanding through acquisition of mid-market retirement residences across Canada over the next 5 years. JOB OVERVIEW

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Human Resources
LOCATION: Ottawa/ GTA

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a support function to the management team for retirement residences in Ontario. The role provides support and direction on specific, complex matters where HR expertise is required for employee relations matters, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, training, policy implementation, and compliance with AODA, OHSA etc. The HRBP promotes Spring Living’s Mission, Vision and Values, fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, and service excellence.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Strategy & Business Partnership

  • Support the executive Directors for their resolution of complex HR matters.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on employee relations, team dynamics, and leadership development.
  • Analyze HR metrics and recommend action plans to drive engagement, retention, and operational efficiency.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Support the recruitment efforts of management roles across all residences.
  • Support companywide management onboarding process to facilitate a smooth transition for management team hires and consistent brand experience. – conduct follow-up interviews for feedback
  • Support best practices for hiring talent management and retention.
  • Complete ONIP documentation and LMIA requirements as required.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Support the ED’s/ leaders with developing strategies during investigations to resolve serious complaints or grievances in compliance with employment laws and company policies.
  • Champion employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs tailored to the unique needs of each community based on yearly survey results.

Education /Learning and Development

  • Provide education and guidance to site leaders on the implementation of performance management programs for managers, including goal setting, coaching, and appraisals using nine boxes for quarterly reviews.
  • Provide education and evaluate the use of the attendance management program at each site monitoring progress- taking corrective action as required to support resolution of attendance management matters!
  • Provide monthly education sessions (remote and train the trainer) on key priority HR matters as identified by sites and in accordance with the annual business plan.

Compliance & Policy Management

  • Support the residences in maintaining compliance with employment standards, health and safety regulations, and applicable provincial legislation.
  • Guide site leaders on HR best practices, workplace investigations, and disciplinary actions as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in accordance with Spring Living standards and legal requirements.

HRIS & Reporting

  • Utilize HR systems (e.g., Dayforce, ADP) to manage employee data, generate reports, and maintain compliance.
  • Track HR metrics including turnover, absenteeism, performance trends, and recruitment KPIs.
  • Participate in regular audits and provide documentation for internal and external reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a multi-site, unionized healthcare, hospitality, or senior living environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CHRP designation (or working towards) is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and experience supporting health & safety initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and build rapport with diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and travel between sites as required.
  • High level of discretion, emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (proof required).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
